Skills Development Centre

At New Life Centre, one of our biggest aims is to empower the women by teaching them any skill that can help them into their future and with getting back on to their feet again.

We are proud to say that we have a big variety of skills that we teach here at the centre, but unfortunately our space is very limited. The following skills are being taught: a cashier course, computer lessons, sewing classes, beadwork, piano lessons, crochet classes and art classes.

When these training sessions take place, we are forced to use our dining room table as there is no other working space. So when the computer teacher comes, we pack out 4 computers, the girls practice what they were taught in the previous lesson, they have their lesson, and then all the equipment needs to packed away again so that they can start with supper lay out. Then when it is time for the sewing classes, we go through the same process. And so on for all the classes…..

Therefore we decided that 2009 is going to be the year that we are going to expand and build on our Training Centre! We are fortunate enough to have sufficient space to build on and we have already had our plans drawn up!

This project is going to cost an estimated R370 000! But we have just realized that if we want to use the ability of our skills development to its full potential, we really need to build on this room. The wear and tear on our equipment is heavy and materials are getting lost amongst all the chaos of having 7 different skills development projects and 7 girls living in the home.

Please assist us in any way possible to help us make this dream come true! By contributing in however big or small way, you will be changing the lives of many women and girls in South Africa!
